Julia Annas (Ph.D., Harvard), Regents Professor of Philosophy, was at St. Hugh's College, Oxford, for fifteen years before coming to Arizona.

Julia's major interests are ancient philosophy, particularly ancient ethics, and contemporary virtue ethics. She has published in both fields.

She is currently working on the role of right action in virtue ethics, and also on a book on virtue in the ancient world in the context of law, focussing on Plato's *Laws* and Cicero and Philo of Alexandria on natural law.

She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the founder and former editor of the annual journal, Oxford Studies in Ancient Philosophy
