Research topic: Industrial history

Industrial history is the branch of historical research that focuses in particular on the history of industry. This history can be approached from a variety of perspectives: technology, management and/or trade unions, working life, social conditions etc.

In Norway, corporate history is a commoner concept than industrial history, even though the latter term is somewhat wider. "Fra Linderud til Eidsvolds verk", which provides an account of a family timber business over several centuries and was written by Andreas Holmsen, August Schou, Francis Sejersted and Even Lange, is often considered a formative work in Norwegian corporate history.

In recent decades many Norwegian industrial companies, such as Borregaard, Statkraft, Orkla, Elkem and Hydro, have commissioned professional historians to write their corporate histories.
