Research topic: History of Political Ideas
The study of the history of political ideas in a historical context has been closely associated with the study of political movements; the ideas have typically been studied in the tension between theory and practice.
There are many ways of studying the history of political ideas. It can be understood as the study of the ideological basis for collective, political movements such as Fascism, Nazism or Communism, it can be defined as the study of central political categories or themes such as democracy, freedom or solidarity, or we can study the changing understanding of central historical texts such as Plato’s Republic, the French declaration of human rights, or Marx and Engel’s The Communist Manifesto. The translation of ideas into actions and the historical consequences of these actions are central elements in the scholarly approach to all of these forms of history of political ideas.
