Research topic: The concept of peace
Several research projects linked to the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History are and have been examining peace policy and, in particular, the extent to which Norway can be said to have a special tradition in this area.
These projects survey and analyse official Norwegian policy and study peace initiatives within State organs and political parties as well as within popular movements.
Central questions in connection with this research are Norwegian views regarding the essential pre-conditions for peace and the causes of war, and the ways these views change. These questions are put into an international perspective, focusing attention on how and to what extent Norwegian views and actions are affected by the international environment. Our research projects also focus on the role and significance of Norwegian participants in major international peace processes. Our research focuses primarily on themes from the 20th century.
