Research topic: International history
International history is concerned with relations between states, both at central governmental and lower levels, and with the domestic processes that contribute to the formation of foreign policy.
International history as an academic discipline is dominated by the study of modern nation states, but its extent is far broader. Relations between states in antiquity, the Middle Ages and the early modern period may also be studied within the field of international history to the extent source material is available.
In the context of modern history, and particularly contemporary history, international historians also focus strongly on governmental and non-governmental international organisations. In its approach to the study of international organisations and networks, international history has significant similarities to transnational history.
