IAKH PhD workshop Paris: Historicizing the Contemporary

We invite PhDs in history/cultural history at Norwegian institutions to a workshop in Paris, Centre Universitaire de Norvège à Paris, CUNP,  November 15th - 17th, with the topic "Historicizing the Contemporary".

Application: Deadline September 20. The application should include the title of the PhD project and a brief abstract - no more than half a page. Notice of acceptance by September 25. Deadline for complete papers (max 20 pages), October 15, which then will be pre-circulated among all participants.

Costs: No course fee. Hotel rooms for three nights, lunches and dinners are covered by the organizers. Travels are paid and booked by the participants.

Call for papers:

The workshop will consist of presentations and discussions of the PhDs' papers and keynote lectures from invited researchers. The aim is to highlight theoretical and methodological issues arising from studying the near past and is directed at PhDs working on what they themselves experience as modern and/or contemporary history. We hope that the workshop will serve to inspire theoretical reflection and to heighten the awareness of the general aspects of the participants' own projects.

The workshop is organized by The department of Archaeology, Conservation and History at the University of Oslo on behalf of the Norwegian network for PhD education in history. The workshop will commence on the morning of November 15th and end with lunch on the 17th.

Detailed programme and reading list will be ready October 1.

Required work:

- Preparatory reading of a curriculum of no more than 300 pages to be distributed electronically to all participants

- Submission of a paper of no more than 20 pages. The paper should be equipped with a brief discussion of the PhD project as a whole and with a few general questions or problems for discussion at the workshop. The workshop language is English.

- Active participation in discussions of all papers and lectures

- Credits: 3 ECTS

Costs:
