Research project

The proposed project is to carry out a cultural comparison between the Neanderthals and early modern humans of the Levant. This project centres around the analysis of material to produce new information concerning the function of stone tools produced by the Neanderthals and early modern humans found at a number of sites situated around the Mt. Carmel area in Israel. Preliminary analysis of the recently excavated material from Amud cavehas already carried out in order to gather information about the subsistence strategy of the Neanderthals from Amud (see preliminary analysis). The expansion of the sample of the Amud site material, would constitute phase 1 of the project.
