Faglige interesser

Gjennom min forskning basert på langvarige feltarbeid (2008 og 2010-11) i det urbane Nord-India (New Dehli og Lucknow) har det utkrystallisert seg enkelte kjernetemaer;

  • Den økonomiske og sosiale transformasjonen av det urbane India i kjølvannet av de ny liberalistiske reformene på 1990 tallet gjennom et fokus på Indisk moteindustri og hvorledes denne industrien forholder seg til lokal håndtverksvirksomhet.
  • Varigheten i ideer knyttet til kongelighet, hierarki og (neo-) imperialisme gjennom et fokus på forestillinger som synes å fortsette å eksistere på tross av nyliberalistiske endringer, særlig hva angår kongelig estetikk og forbruk av luksuriøst arvgods.
  • Lokale relasjoner mellom hinduer og muslimer i Lucknow i Uttar Pradesh gjennom et fokus på hvorledes samhørighet påvirkes av håndtverksproduksjon, et lokalt samvirke som bryter grensene mellom religioner, klasser, kaster og lokal tilhørighet.
