Philip E. Larson earned the PhD
in dramatic art at the University of California in Berkeley. His
dissertation was on Ibsen's early plays. From 1975 to 1998 he was on
the faculty of St. Lawrence University, a private liberal arts college
in New York State. Currently Professor Larson is on the faculty of the
School of Foreign Languages at Fudan University in Shanghai, where he
teaches English and drama.
Recent publications on Ibsen include a selection of letters in Edda
(January 1998) and a book: Ibsen in Skien and Grimstad: his
education, reading and early works. Grimstad: Ibsenhuset og
Grimstad Bymuseum, 1999. The book has been loaded onto the website, and
can be downloaded for free and printed out.
Larson has directed seven productions of Ibsen's plays, including Love's Comedy, The Wild Duck, Rosmersholm, The Lady from the Sea, Hedda Gabler (twice) and The Master Builder.
