The Department embraces four disciplines: Philosophy, Classical Languages (Greek and Latin), the History of Ideas and Art History. In addition, the University's Ethics Programme and the Centre for the Study of Mind in Nature (CSMN) are administered by the Department.
The Department has nearly 70 permanent academic positions, 30 doctoral fellowships and an administration of 20 employees. The permanent staff is supplemented by adjuncts, teaching assistants, and research assistants.

IFIKK is located in Georg Morgenstiernes house, Blindernveien 31, at the upper part of campus.
