Research topic: Classics

At Classics section of IFIKK we do research on both Greek and Latin as languages and on the literature written in these languages.

Within Greek literature, we work on epic and on Greek literature in general from Homer until the Second Sophistic. Our scholarship is often based on a narratological approach.

Within Latin literature we focus on Augustan literature, philosophical texts and neo-Latin. The research  is philological with an emphasis on textual criticism and editorial philology.

We have a research group in papyrology connected to the papyrus collection at the university library and we also have researchers working within a linguistic approach to Greek and Latin. The focus is on syntax and semantics, both in a theoretical linguistic frame and in a comparative Indo-European perspective.
