Research topic: History of ideas
The history of ideas involves the analysis of ideas, ideologies and mental outlooks in their historical context.
History of ideas is the study of notions, values and systems of knowledge within historical contexts. Research in the history of ideas is partly concerned with how earlier patterns of thought are continued and used in the present, partly concerned with discovering how present ways of thinking differ radically from previous modes of thought.
The research in history of ideas done by faculty members at Department of Philosophy, History of Ideas and Art, and Classical Studies comprises themes from Antiquity to the present, but our focus is primarily on Western intellectual traditions. Areas of research are, among others, history of political and social thought in Europe from 1400 to the present, Norwegian history of ideas from the early modern period and onwards, history of knowledge in a European context, notions of childhood and youth, as well as notions of marginalized social Groups.
