Information concerning the academic-social and academic funds at IFIKK

All students and student organisations may apply for funds from their study programme. Bachelor students and student organisations may apply for academic-social funds, while master students may apply for academic funds, including subsidy of travel expenses.

Any questions concerning academic- social and academic funds may be directed to the programme advisor of your study programme.

The application deadline is the 1st of March in the spring semester and the 1st of October in the autumn semester.

Academic-social funds

You may apply for academic-social funds if you want to arrange, for example, a lunch, a guest lecture, a quiz or any other gathering with an academic and social substance. The funds are primarily intended for bachelor students, but the activity may include master students.

Criteria for the use of academic-social funds

  1. Academic-social funds are only to be used for arranging academic-social activities for the students of the study programme.
  2. Activities that are open to all students of a study programme are given priority over activities that only concern a particular programme option. Generally, the funds are not granted to particular subject areas.
  3. Academic-social funds may not be used to buy beer/wine/spirits, neither for the reception week in the start of the semester, for the completion ceremony for programme students nor for any other student activity.

Academic funds

Academic funds may be used to support academic activities for master students, be it for arranging seminars or participating in excursions, conferences or seminars. Academic funds may be used to arrange educational trips and excursions where both master and bachelor students participate, but only if the activity has a distinct educational content. The academic funds may be used to arrange the completion ceremony for master students and information meetings, but it may not be used to buy beer/wine/spirits, neither for the reception week in the start of the semester, for the completion ceremony for programme students nor for any other student activity.

Subsidy of expenses necessary for the completion of the master thesis or of travel expenses

Master students at IFIKK may apply for funds in order to cover expenses that are necessary to the completion of the master thesis. Such expenses may be connected to visiting archives or to other travels that are crucial for the master thesis.

Master students at IFIKK may be granted a subsidy of travel expenses from the academic funds. The size of the subsidy may vary each semester, depending on the amount of applicants and the part of the fund granted to each study programme. The applicant may not expect to be granted a subsidy more than once during the master programme.

NB: There is no precedent in granting subsidy of travel expenses to the department’s courses abroad.

The following guidelines apply to the granting of subsidy of travel expenses:

  • Expenses related to transportation are covered (It is expected that the student chooses the most inexpensive travel option).
  • Expenses related to entrance fees, conference fees or the like may be covered.
  • Expenses related to board and lodging are generally not covered.

Application procedure

The application has to include an account of what the student wishes to have subsidised and how this gives a crucial contribution to the master thesis. In addition to this, the application has to include a basic overview of the budget. The application also has to be approved by the student’s supervisor. This may be done in two ways: Either the supervisor signs the application form by hand in the allotted area, or he/she may do so by signing it digitally and forwarding it by e-mail to the programme advisor it concerns.
