Prosjekt

Etter Egypt ble erobret av Alexander den store (332 fvt), den nye hovedstaden Alexandria ble til en viktig forskningssenter. Alexandrinske grammatikere forsket blant annet på Gresk literatur og språk. I den romerske perioden (31 fvt - 284 evt) prøvde grammatikere å definere greske språknormer basert på den klassiske literaturen fra 500 år tidligere. Disse konservative språknormer har påvirket senere greske literære verker i stor grad. Det er imidlertid ukjent i hvor mye disse språknormer påvirket allmennspråket. Dette prosjektet er basert på tekster fra hverdagslivet, som for eksempel greske brev og dokumenter skrevet på papyrus og potteskår som ble fant i den egyptiske ørken. Jeg skal også bruke en ny kilde til historisk språkforskning, nemlig språkkorreksjoner som ble lagt til av skriverne selv. Tok disse skrivere hensyn til språknormer? Og de som gjorde det, hvilke normer følger de? Har de blitt påvirket av grammatikere?

Prosjektet gjennomføres på Universitetet i Gent, KU Leuven og Universitetet i Oslo.
