Background

Born 1962 in Copenhagen. Master degree in Chinese, anthropology and literary science from Aarhus University, Shandong University in China (1986-1988) and School of Oriental and Asian Studies, London (1991). Phd with a thesis about ethnic relations and minority education in China from Aarhus University 1996. Postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Development and the Environment, University of Oslo 1996-1999. From 2000 associate professor at the Department of East European and Oriental Studies. Professor since 2003, and head of Department of East European and Oriental Studies (2003-2004) and Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages (2005-2006). From 2007 to 2010 dean of research at the Faculty of Humanities. Honorary visiting professor at the Department of Anthropology, Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2011-2012, and visiting professor at the Academia Sinica, Taiwan in 2015. Scholarship from Centre for Advanced Study (Senter for Grunnforskning) 2016-2017 for the project "Airborne: Pollution, Climate Change and New Visions of Sustainability in China" (financed by FRIPRO, NFR). Has spent more than 6 years as student and researcher in China (and Hong Kong and Taiwan) between 1986 and 2016.
