Tibetan Pre-death Ritual: A tradition of Merit Accumulation in Gling rgya village in Reb gong, A mdo
This project will focus on religious beliefs and practices related to pre-death ritual in Gling rgya village in Reb gong, northeast of Tibet. The ritual is practiced for the old people who are in their sixties or seventies for merit accumulation.Religion dramatically influences almost every single life aspect of Tibetan people. Consequently, the notions of Karma, merit accumulation, and rebirth in Tibetan Buddhism play a very important role when studying and analyzing the cultural concepts of pre-death ritual in this village. My case study of one village can be considered to be generally representative for the entire Reb gong area.
