Research topic: Oil Politics in the Gulf Region
The world’s undisputedly largest oil reserves are located in the Gulf Region, and this characterizes both the countries in the region and their relationship with the rest of the world.
While oil-based economies have given several countries a very high level of prosperity, they have also posed many challenges, the most pressing of which are corruption, lack of democracy, poorly diversified economies and ever-increasing numbers of inhabitants of working age. How the various states solve these challenges will prove decisive not just for the region, but for the whole world. The study of the region’s social, economic and political development is therefore of decisive importance.
