Språkvarianter og kodeveksling i moderne arabisk (avsluttet)

Prosjektet beskriver og analyserer muntlige og skriftlige tekster som kombinerer standardarabisk og talemål.

Om prosjektet

Prosjektet tok utgangspunkt i at språklig variasjon i arabisk bryter med den tradisjonelle todelingen i høyspråk, dvs standardarabisk, og lavspråk eller talemål. Dette er et komplekst fenomen med overlapping av variantetene.

Ulike typer tekster var gjenstand for analyse. Teoretiske og metodiske modeller og begreper ble hentet fra studier av bilingvisme, kodeveksling, genre og stil. Disse ble prøvd mot mer generelle hypoteser knyttet til språkkontakt.

Mål

Forskningen ønsket å fremme både deskriptive og analytiske studier av denne typen arabiske tekster. De har alltid eksistert parallelt med de mer rene klassiske, eller talemålsformene. Målet var å oppdage tendenser og regelmessigheter, og forstå disse tekstenes funksjon i en historisk og sosiokulturell kontekst.

Samarbeid

Et delprosjekt, "Mixed styles in written journalism in Egypt: Strategies and perceptions" inngår i det NFR-støttede prosjektet "The ideology and sociology of language change in the Arab world" som administreres fra FAFO.

Prosjektet er en del av nettverket "International Association for the study of Middle and Mixed Arabic" (AIMA), og knytter også opp mot det nystiftete internasjonale prosjektet "Towards a Thesaurus Linguae Arabicae", basert ved University Roma Tre.
