Call for Demonstrations

The Northern European Association for Language Technology (NEALT) invites proposals for demonstrations at its bi-annual conference on human language and speech technologies: NODALIDA 2013 will be held between May 22 and May 24, 2013, on the campus of the University of Oslo (Norway). Please mark your calendars.

Conference highlights

As part of the main conference, there will be three invited keynotes:

  • Ron Kaplan, Nuance Communications and Stanford University, USA
  •  Caroline Sporleder, University of Trier, Germany
  • Anders Søgaard, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Preceding the main conference, on Wednesday, May 22, there will be five topical workshops:

  • Second Workshop on NLP for Computer-Assisted Language Learning
  • Workshop on Computational Historical Linguistics
  • Workshop on Human Language Technology and Language Changes
  • Workshop on Lexical Semantic Resources for NLP
  • Workshop on Nordic Language Research Infrastructure
  • Workshop on Human Language Technology and Language Changes

Please see "Registration" in the left menu for information on registration fees and choices of accomodation (of which some are comparatively economic):

Early registration at reduced fees opens  March 12. The list of scientific papers accepted for the main conference will be posted at the above web site in the same week.

Submissions

NODALIDA addresses all aspects of speech recognition and synthesis, natural language processing, and computational linguistics—including work in closely related neighbouring disciplines (such as, for example, linguistics or psychology) that is sufficiently formalized or applied to bear relevance to speech and language technologies.

We invite submissions for software or resource demonstrations, e.g. of systems, interfaces, infrastructures, data collections, or annotations. Demonstration submissions should outline the nature and scope of what will be demonstrated, including sufficient detail to allow evaluation of its validity, quality, and relevance to the NODALIDA community and topics of interest (see above).

Demonstration papers accepted for presentation at the conference will be included in the NODALIDA 2013 proceedings, published as part of the NEALT Proceedings Series by Linköping University Electronic Press.  As part of the main conference, demonstrations will be presented parallel to the poster session(s), where each demonstration will have available (at least) a table and large screen, as well as space for an overview poster.  In case there are technical needs beyond power and (wireless) network access, these must be specified as part of the submission.

Schedule

  • Monday, April 8, 2013: Submission of Papers
  • Monday, April 22, 2013: Notification of Acceptance
  • Monday, April 27, 2013: Camera-Ready Manuscripts
  • Wednesday, May 22, 2013: Pre-Conference Workshops
  • Thursday & Friday, May 23 & 24, 2013: Main Conference

Submission formats

All submissions must follow the NoDaLiDa 2013 style files, which are available for LaTeX (preferred), Libre Office, or MS Word and can be retrieved from the following address:

http://emmtee.net/oe/nodalida13

Submissions for demonstrations need not be anonymous. Demonstration papers must be submitted digitally, in PDF, and uploaded through the
on-line conference system.  Paper submissions that violate the format requirements will be returned without review.

Demonstration papers can be up to five pages long, including the title page but excluding any additional pages with bibliographic references.
Please observe that NoDaLiDa 2013 adapts a single-column, smaller page format, optimized for on-screen reading.

Submission management

Submissions to the conference must be uploaded electronically, obeying the above requirements and no later than (end of day, world-wide):

  •  Monday, April 8, 2013.

NODALIDA 2013 utilizes the EasyChair conference management system for submission, reviewing, and preparation of proceedings.

Programme commitee

Reviewing of submissions and selection of the conference programme will be managed by the NODALIDA 2013 Programme Committee.  Submissions will be reviewed by (at least) two members of the programme committee or by other experts in the field.

  • Lars Ahrenberg, Linköping University, Sweden
  • Heiki-Jaan Kaalep, University of Tartu, Estonia
  • Mikko Kurimo, Aalto University, Finland
  • Stephan Oepen (Programme Chair), University of Oslo, Norway
  • Eva Pettersson, Uppsala University, Sweden
