My work is at the intersection between literary studies and psychology, deploying literary analysis, reader-response theories and attachment theory. I am interested in how our emotional ties to literature get formed and break, and why they are of critical importance to us. Specifically, my research focuses on how these ties are addressed in the literary works of Elena Ferrante, Rachel Cusk and Siri Hustvedt. My PhD project, "Literary Attachments: the making and breaking of literary bonds in The Days of Abandonment, Aftermath, and The Summer Without Men" investigates the role literature play in attachment, and in the development of a female writing self.
The thesis contributes to the research group, Literature, Cognition and Emotion (LCE), which is an interdisciplinary hub that brings together literary studies, linguistics, psychology ane neuroscience, led by professor Karin Kukkonen.
