ENPC: More languages

The English-Norwegian Parallel Corpus

Extensions of the project

More languages

When the English-Norwegian Parallel Corpus was completed, work began to include other languages, mainly German, Dutch, and Portuguese. By March 1999, there were translations of a number of English original texts into German, Dutch, and Portuguese, and we had started compiling a corpus of original German texts and their translations into English and Norwegian. German translations had also been added for many of the original Norwegian texts.

Status of the project by March 1999:

The extension of the corpus to include other languages, especially German, later resulted in a new project, Languages in Contrast, and a new corpus, called the Oslo Multilingual Corpus.

Finnish and Swedish translations of the English original texts compiled by sister projects in Sweden and Finland are also available. This means that you can, for example, search in a corpus containing English texts translated into German or Dutch, English texts translated into Portuguese or Finnish, etc.
