ENPC: Multiple translations

The English-Norwegian Parallel Corpus

Extensions of the project

Multiple translations

In connection with the English-Norwegian Parallel Corpus Project, a closely related project has been initiated by Linn Øverås, in collaboration with Stig Johansson. Multiple translations have been commissioned of the same two English original texts into Norwegian. Ten translators have translated the short story: "A Lamia in the Cevennes" by A. S. Byatt, and another ten translators have translated the scientific article: "Communication and cooperation in early infancy: a description of primary intersubjectivity" by Colwyn Trevarthen. Norsk Oversetterforening (The Norwegian Association of Literary Translators) and Norsk faglitterær forfatter- og oversetterforening (The Norwegian Non-fiction Writers and Translators Association) have contributed to the funding of the project.

This is an extension of the English-Norwegian Parallel Corpus Project in the sense that this new project benefits from the techniques used and the tools developed for the purpose of the original project. In short, the multiple translation project makes use of the same mark-up and the same software as the English-Norwegian Parallel Corpus. The ultimate aim of the project is to focus on norm and variation in English-Norwegian translation.
