Please tell us about your background?

– I got my BA in Spanish Philology at the University of Deusto in 1997, followed by an MA in Cultural Events Management and a second MA in Publishing and Editing at the same university.

I then became a lecturer of Spanish language, literature and culture, and lived for three years in Szeged, a vibrant university city in the south of Hungary. In 2005, after coming back to Spain, I moved to the United States. First to teach while obtaining a MA in Spanish Literature at the University of Nevada in Reno, and after that gaining a PhD in Spanish Literature at the University of California (Davis) in 2011.

I worked as an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University, in Upstate New York, and at Hobart and William Smith Colleges as well. Overall, it is a privilege to be able to add different national and continental perspectives to your work when it deals with cultural perspectives, as well working with students from different backgrounds and nationalities.

My research interests are mainly in the area of the Hispanic Literatures, in particular the concepts of fantasy, imagination and magic in the Spanish Renaissance and Baroque fiction. Another aspect that I am passionate about is the way in which narratives have been shaped by the use of different media, raising the critical question on how we should (or could) edit, publish and disseminate our classic literature in the Digital Age, and how a new media ecosystem transform the reader and the ways we understand publishing.

What will be the focus of your work at ILOS?

– Besides contributing with personal high-quality research and bringing my international and multi-cultural experience together, I am committed to supporting our students academically so they can develop a precise and critical understanding of the many issues that the Hispanic Literatures raise in connection with our current world as individuals, as well as in connection with our current global and digitized society.

I am looking forward to working with our students, colleagues and several research groups at UiO in order to share and advance in common and innovative projects based not only on our common interests, but also on our intertwined fields, seeking interdisciplinary and international collaborations. As well, I love friendly environments of collaborative work.
