Open film screening: Right Between Your Ears

Have you ever been convinced of something, beyond all doubt? Many people have a strong sense that their views are right and couldn’t possibly be wrong. So how do we come to hold an unshakable conviction and why is it hard to consider that we could be mistaken? A film about the neuroscience and psychology of how people form convictions. Public screening - all are welcome!

Documentary directed by Sheila Marshall, produced by Kris De Meyer. Distributed by Java Films. The film will be introduced by Kris De Meyer and is followed by an open Q&A.

Through the eyes of a group of people convinced that they knew the date for the end of the world, Right Between Your Ears (2016) explores how people believe, how we turn beliefs into certainties, and mistake them for the truth.

The documentary film will be screened at the British Science Festival and Los Angeles Lift-Off Film Festival in the weeks before coming to Oslo.

The film's producer, Kris De Meyer, is a neuroscientist at King's College London.

The screening is organized by Tina Skouen as part of the PhD program at ILOS - Dept of Literature, Area studies and European Languages. Attendance is mandatory for those participating in the PhD workshop on "Persuasion and Polarisation in Politics, Science and Society."
