Research topic: Media technology
All the media that surround us, depend on some form of technology or combination of technologies.
These technologies offer different opportunities and constraints for the media and for our use and perception of those.
Paper books, printed newspapers, photography and television are all examples of media technologies.
Nowadays many of modern media are digital media, where the same networks and devices can be used for several different media purposes. This fusion of media technologies is sometimes described as “convergence”.
We examine how media technologies are developed and designed, study different possibilities and limitations of the technologies and look into how power relations in society and media industries are influenced by what the available technology can offer.
