Background

Since I can remember I have been fascinated with music, art and nature. When I was eight years old, I enrolled into the State Music School in my hometown in Poland, where I was a student for the next 11 years, graduating with a piano diploma. In the meantime I started studies in psychology at the University of Warsaw. I did my MA in 2015, specializing in Social Experimental Psychology.

The topic of my master thesis was "The effects of musical training in early childhood on brain structure and cognitive performance". As I became very interested in the functioning of the brain, I joined a research team based at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology at the Polish Academy of Sciences, affiliated with the Laboratory of Psychophysiology and the Laboratory of Brain Imaging. For three years we were examining the neural correlates of developmental dyslexia in 6-11 year old children. I also studied sound engineering for some time, coupling my knowledge of music performance and psychology with a more technical perspective and understanding of the sound as a physical phenomenon.

In my work within the research project "Human Bodily Micromotion in Music Perception and Interaction" I would like to explore several topics. Generally, they are related to the interpersonal differences in music perception and to the importance of the source of sound for the response of the human body. I am interested particularly in the mechanism of entrainment to musical rhythm and its evolutionary origins.
