Norway is the world leader in streaming of music, according to the report 'Streaming Goes Global: Analysing Global Streaming Music Adaption'. Streaming of music involve streaming over the Internet, through services like Spotify and WiMP. 48 per cent of the Norwegian population streams music, according to the report. In my thesis, I want to compare the two streaming services Spotify and WiMP – mobile applications. I want to identify the constraints of the mobile interface, and how the users are affected by the mobile interface. What are the requirements and needs of these kind of applications? Visibility, feedback and consistency are three design principles I want to base my research on. I will conduct a focus group and user testing of the two applications. In addition, I will talk with the participants and conduct qualitative interviews with some of the participants. I want to reveal how the user experiences the applications, and be able to identify stengths and weaknesses in the mobile interface. In addition to these methods, I want to make a heuristic evaluation of the applications. This will make up the comparative analysis of the two applications. Music streaming through mobile phones are becoming more and more popular, and as you listen to music on-the-go, the design of the mobile interface is very important. The applications must fulfill the users requirements.
