What tasks did you perform during your internship?

– I was part of the communications team at the Permanent Mission and worked closely with the Press Counsellor. No two days were the same, and I really enjoyed being involved in the communications work. My tasks mainly consisted of updating the website, writing weekly reports, and producing social media content. I also helped to conduct visits and events at the Permanent Mission, and followed the Foreign Minister’s programme during the opening of the UN General Assembly. It was a unique experience to work at the Permanent Mission of Norway to the United Nations this autumn, as Norway is competing for a seat on the UN Security Council. Being involved in the election campaign was incredibly informative!

How did you use skills you have acquired from your education at the Faculty of Humanities?

– Since most of the communication work is in English, it was a huge advantage that my studies at Blindern are in English! It was fun to have the opportunity to use the writing and language skills I have learned to formulate clear, targeted messages on social media.

What do you think is or was the greatest benefit from your internship?

– I have learned a lot about the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and how the Permanent Mission to the United Nations works to implement Norwegian foreign policy in practice. For me, the highlight of my stay was to be seen as an asset and be shown confidence. This allowed me to gain experience that will be invaluable when I head out into the world of work. The fact that I got to work with so many talented, welcoming people was the icing on the cake.

- What is the best advice you can give new students who are wondering about the job opportunities available to them after graduation?

Anything else you would like to add?

– Grab the chance! Doing an internship as part of your studies is a unique opportunity that you may not get again.
