Academic interests and areas of expertise
My academic interests have revolved around questions related to Islam and culture, society, politics, globalization, and mobilization in the Middle East. This has so far led to research on women intellectual preachers in Saudi Arabia, Islamic revivalism and Salafism, Islamic culture, non-feminist woman advocacy, and transnational Islamic networking and mobilization.
In 2019, I obtained my PhD in Middle Eastern studies from the University of Oslo with my thesis: "Pious Power: Epistemology, Discourses and Practices of Female Intellectual Preachers in Saudi Arabia."
I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher with the project "GlAntiFem: Globalizing Anti-Feminism: A Phenomenology of Transnational Networks of Islamic Women Organizations", funded by EU's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship. As part of this fellowship, I will both be based at The American University in Cairo's Department of Sociology, Egyptology and Anthropology and at The University of Oslo's Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages.
I have lived and worked in extended periods in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Lebanon, and speak Norwegian, English, Arabic and Tmazight.
