Research Seminar in Tibetan and Himalayan Studies (TibHim)
The Research Seminar in Tibetan and Himalayan Studies is an interfacultary and interdisciplinary research seminar with thematic focus on religion and society in Tibetan, Himalayan and Central-Asian communities. The seminar series started spring 2011 and is led by Professor Hanna Havnevik, Department for Culture Studies and Oriental Languages (IKOS), in cooperation with Dr. Heidi Fjeld (Institute for Health and Society) and PhD candidate in the history of religions Astrid Hovden (IKOS).
Tibetan Buddhism's interaction with local religious traditions in Asia as well as its adjustments to multicultural contexts and globalized societies are themes of particular interest. The Seminar is a forum for researchers and PhD-fellows at UiO and internationally who primarily work with Tibet and the Himalayan region, but researchers with an interest in religion and society in other parts of Asia are also welcome. The Seminar discusses theoretical and methodological questions related to Tibetan and Himalayan Studies, based on recently published research literature.
PhD-fellows’ attendance and presentations give credits in the Faculty of Humanity’s PhD-program. Every semester open guest lectures by international scholars will also be arranged.
