What is Fundamentalism? (completed)

This project will investigate fundamentalism in the world religions.

About the project

The main idea of the book is that fundamentalism is a struggle, peaceful or violent, by religious movements with the aim of stopping or reversing the secularizing forces around the world from around 1850. These forces influence private lives and the public spheres in most societies and are exerted through policies on matters like education, law, and science. To most religious conservatives these policies and the secular and liberal culture are seen as dangerous and evil.
The book will add an original argument to the literature about fundamentalism, regarding the relationship between religious authority and concepts of the divine.

The aim of the project is the publishing of a monograph about fundamentalism in the world of religions by Cambridge University Press, New York in 2012.
