Professor emeritus Tor Halfdan Aase, Department of Geography, University of Bergen

It was with great sadness that we received the news of Tor Halfdan Aase's death. He died at home with his family around him, after suffering from cancer for more than a year.

We would like to thank Tor for his inspiring collaboration, his solid professional input and positive mindset. We hoped that we could travel together on a research trip to Bhutan, a country he immensely wanted to visit, and we had looked forward to discussing the results of his recent research stay in Manang. Instead he was abruptly torn away.

For us, Tor represents an academic ideal where he maintained a strong academic tradition, while at the same time placing great emphasis on the fellow human aspects of research life. Colleagues and students in Norway, the Himalayas and other places in the world are deeply grateful for everything Tor has given.

A final and warm greeting from Hanna, Astrid, Hildegard and Riam
