Pamukiana (completed)

The project consists of translation and analyses of Orhan Pamuk's latest novel, Masumiyet Müzesi - Museum of Innocence.

About the project

Masumiyet Müzesi - Museum of Innocence - appeared in Turkish during he spring of 2008, and the Norwegian translation will appear in 2010. One of the most interesting aspects of this love novel is the description of he Collector and his collection, as the male protagonist establishes a museum devoted to his beloved and the merry 1970ies in Istanbul. The novel is also suitable for a study of Pamuk's language and literary techniques.

Objectives

The aim of the project is to translate this novel into Norwegian and to study the very special literary techniques used by the author, and also to compare the novel linguistically to his earlier novels. An article in Norwegian about the museological aspect of the novel, Objects in the Novel. Orhan Pamuk and his material world is ready, and will be published in S. Naguib and B. Rogan's forthcoming anthology The Culture of materiality and the Materiality of Culture.
