Research topic: Hinduism

Hinduism has a continuous history that extends back well over 2,000 years.

It is a religion that is closely associated with a specific region, namely South Asia, although waves of emigration in modern times (the Indian diaspora) have resulted in the presence of significant Indian overseas communities in most parts of the world.

Hinduism consists of an enormous number of different branches, but the majority of Hindus belong to branches of the religion whose beliefs and practices are focused on either the gods Vishnu or Shiva or the goddess Devi. Hinduism is practised in everyday life through a variety of rituals and festivals. Brahmins, or members of the priestly class, have always played a decisive role in preserving Hindu traditions. In modern times many people have come to associate Hinduism very closely with Indian national Identity.
