Nakagami Kenji is today regarded as one of the most important and influential Japanese post-war writers. Born in 1946 in the burakumin ghetto of the small coastal town of Shingu in southern Wakayama prefecture, Nakagami sailed up as a rising star on the literary skies in the mid-seventies when he became the first writer born after the Second World War to win the prestigious Akutagawa prize. He was also the first writer of the burakumin background to receive wide literary acclaim and recognition from critics and from the literary establishment.

The common denominator of the one-day workshop, on which the volume is based, was the theme “Verbal Festivity in Arabic and other Semitic Languages”, as agreed upon by the two co-organizers. It appeared to be a reasonable idea to unite presentations about various aspects of formal and polite speech in the Semitic language area with a focus on Arabic.

Kronologien er erstattet av perspektiver. Og perspektivene anvendes på fire ulike hovedområder innen teatret. Slik skaper lærebokforfatterne Siren Leirvåg og Rolf Eriksen en ny kategoritabell som innganger til temaer i teaterhistorien. Boken ”Teater i perspektiv” ble lansert på den såkalte preåpningen av Dramatikkens hus.

In spite of the intense preoccupation with individual and self in modern Western thought, the social sciences have tended to focus on groups and collectives and downplay (even disregard) the individual. This implicit view has also coloured the study of social life in China where both Confucian ethics and Communist policies have shaped collective structures with little room for individual agency and choice.
