NORMS (Nordic Centre of Excellence in Microcomparative Syntax)

In May 2005, researchers at The Text Laboratory and ILN, in cooperation with six other research groups were awarded the distinction "Nordic Center of Excellence in Microcomparative Syntax (NORMS)".

49 applications were submitted to the NOS-HS (Nordic council for humanistic and social sciences research) - and only four applications were selected as Nordic Center of Excellence from 2005 to 2010. NORMS developed from the co-operation in ScanDiaSyn, but also involves other researchers.

The Text Laboratory is part of the NORMS through the Oslo group, which is led by Janne Bondi Johannessen, and otherwise contains Helge Lødrup and Jan Terje Faarlund, plus junior researchers. The Text Laboratory has the technical responsibility for the resources of the centre. NORMS is led by Professor Peter Svenonius at the Center of Advanced Study in Theoretical Linguistics (CASTL), the University of Tromsø. There are a total of seven research groups, the others are at the Universities of Tromsø, Trondheim, Lund, Helsinki, Reykjavik and Aarhus. The participants will work together on theoretical research on Scandinavian dialect syntax.
