My PhD project on 'The Rhetoric of Conversion' investigates the seventeenth-century conversion narrative. The project centers on two edited collections dating from 1653, one by Henry Walker and the other by John Rogers. I identify the rhetorical features and effects of the narratives contained in the two volumes, and how they present themselves to readers as 'textual congregations'. Furthermore I argue that their persuasive purpose should be read contextually, as part of the political and theological programmes of the 1650’s.
