“Found in Translation: Southern Europe/Norden” is a research group at ILOS-UiO dealing with topics on how Northern/Southern cultural and national identities within Europe are negotiated, translated and shaped across different communities, shared spaces and channels. 

This seminar will be focused on Southern/Northern imagological aspects, from borealism as a way to define the North as a discursive space to an analysis of the epistemologies of the South.

Orhan Pamuk «turns contradictions into ways of being», skriver Erdağ Göknar, en av hans oversettere. I Pamuk-forskningen står hans lek med motsetningene mellom vest og øst, mellom ord og bilder, mellom fiksjon og virkelighet, religion og sekularisme i sentrum. Jeg er interessert i hvordan oversettelsen – lesningen av et verk gjennom oversettelse – av Orhan Pamuks Kırmızı Saçlı Kadın, Kvinnen med rødt hår, kan belyse disse motsetningene. Gjennom å ta for meg stil, Pamuks bruk av andre tekster, og av visuelle utrykk i Kvinnen med rødt hår, har jeg forsøkt, med oversettelsen som inngang, å komme nærmere en forståelse av Pamuks særegne prosjekt.
