Ekaterina Pashevich

Academic interests
Ekaterina Pashevich researchers design and regulation of smart toys as a part of the Internet of Toys in Norway and Europe. She is mostly interested whether design of these toys reflects the interests of children. The PhD project is affiliated with an international project EU Kids Online, which is occupied with safe Internet use minding children's rights to participate online.
Ekaterina explores the following questions with the Internet of Toys:
- Why do smart toys exist in the first place? What are their benefits and risks for children?
- Who purchases smart toys for their children and why?
- How does the presence of smart toys influence the human contact of children?
- What can we learn about children by studying their communication with smart toys?
Background
Ekaterina has background in International Journalism from Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO-University) and possesses a master's degree in Media Studies from the University of Oslo.
