Research topic: Social media
Social media is an umbrella term for websites where users themselves produce the content. We are looking into social media’s impact on mainstream media, media use, journalism and media economics.
We are particularly concerned about how politicians use social media and how social media has become a new channel of political communication. We also ask to what extent this development changes the relationship between voters and politicians, and have impact on democratic processes in Norway and worldwide:
- How do politicians use social media to recruit volunteers, mobilize supporters and attract attention of the media?
- How do the media players use social media in order to find sources, ideas, receive feedbackand promote their cases?
- How do people use social media to take action and get media attention to the issues that are important for them?
