Biografi

Timotheus Vermeulen er professor i media, kultur og samfunn og koordinator for stipendiatprogrammet i medier og kommunikasjon. Forskningsinteresser omfatter kulturteori, estetikk og tekstanalyse av film, tv og samtidskunst. 
 
Vermeulen har skrevet monografien Scenes From the Suburbs (EUP, 2014) og er sammen med Martin Dines redaktør av New Suburban Stories (Bloomsbury, 2013). Sammen med Alison Gibbons og Robin van den Akker redigerte han Metamodernism: Historicity, Affect and Depth after Postmodernism (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017). ‘Notes on Metamodernism’, et essay han skrev med van den Akker, ble oversatt og publisert i bokform i Tyskland som Anmerkungen zur Metamoderne (Textem, 2016).
 
Vermeulen har publisert på tvers av akademiske og populærkulturelle tidsskrifter, blant annet i The Journal of Aesthetics and Culture, Screen, Film-Philosophy, Monu, The American Book Review, E-Flux Journal, Texte Zur Kunst, samt ulike referanseverk, samlinger og kataloger. Mellom 2009 og 2016 bidro han til å opprettholde den nå nedlagte kunst- og kulturplattformen Notes on Metamodernism, som han var med på å grunnlegge. Vermeulen bidrar regelmessig til kunstmagasinet Frieze
 
Timotheus Vermeulen har vært en del av en rekke komitéer og juryer for kunstpriser, senest Coast Contemporary, Nam Jun Paik Award og Bonner Kunstpreis. I tillegg fungerer han som rådgiver og konsulent for utstillinger.
