Over the last twenty years, the proliferation of digital communication technologies and the increase of global mobility have reshaped language practices worldwide. A ‘new media sociolinguistics’ has emerged as a sub-discipline of sociolinguistics with interdisciplinary links to media and communication studies, education, sociology and anthropology. Instructors are Jannis Androutsopoulos (University of Hamburg) and Ana Deumert (University of Cape Town).
