Dr. Aimée Myers (Assistant Professor, Texas Woman's University), Dr. Jorge F. Figueroa (Associate Professor, Texas Woman's University), and Dr. Barbara Muszyńska (Fulbright Scholar, Texas Woman's University) will discuss modeling the tenets of critical pedagogy for future teachers who will be working in diverse, multilingual learning environments.

MultiLing's Winter School 2022 focuses on the multilingual workplace as a multi-layered space where linguistic skills intersect with social, cultural and psychological factors. There will be both public sessions open for the general audience and sessions for enrolled Ph.D. participants only.

Mari J. Wikhaug Andersen will present an in-progress study centered on multilingualism and multilingual practices in mainstream vocational classes in Norway. The study is based on selected teacher interview data gathered in her PhD fieldwork in the school year 2020-2021. It sheds light on the complex roles and experiences of non-language subject teachers in increasingly diverse and multilingual school settings.

Bjørn Torgrim Ramberg (Professor, University of Oslo) and Unn Røyneland (Professor, Director of MultiLing, University of Oslo) will discuss linguistic activism, power, and the concept of language.

Franziska Köder is a researcher and lab manager of MultiLing's Socio-Cognitive Laboratory. She holds a PhD in Experimental Psycholinguistics (University of Groningen) and a MA in German Linguistics, and Philosophy (University of Heidelberg). Her interests lie in children’s pragmatic and semantic development, with a special focus on multilingualism and atypical development. She is currently the manager of the project "Better attention, better communication? How ADHD and multilingualism influence children’s pragmatic development", funded by The Research Council of Norway.

Carmit Altman will discuss the impact of Bilingual Narrative Intervention (BINARI) on critical narrative features in BOTH languages and cross-linguistic effects in preschool bilingual children with typical language development (TLD) and developmental language disorder (DLD).

Audun is a PhD fellow at MultiLing, University of Oslo. He has a background in psychology and as a preschool teacher. His research interest spans the early years of cognitive development, especially language acquisition and the role of environmental input in shaping language outcomes.

Children's imaginative play has long attracted scholars in different fields, from psychologists like Vygotsky in the 1960s to sociolinguists in recent years. This symposium with papers from diverse contexts will address such methodological and theoretical questions as how bi/multilingual children use linguistic varieties and other semiotic resources in their plays, and what implications their language use may have for the languages, families, communities, and societies.

To complement the release of Bauta: Janne Bondi Johannessen in memoriam, the memorial volume editors and MultiLing are organizing a two-day seminar, which will close with a memorial lecture by Joe Salmons.

Ane is a PhD fellow at the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian studies at the University of Oslo (UiO), she is also affiliated with MultiLing. Ane has an MA in linguistics from UiO. She has previously worked on a variety of different projects as a research assistant, involving data collection with child and adult populations.

For the 2021 Einar Haugen Lecture, the eminent Aneta Pavlenko will be taking us on a journey in a linguistic time machine, from Ptolemaic Alexandria in 323 BC to the present day.

How is knowledge produced, negotiated, and mobilized in multilingual settings? The four studies presented in this seminar explore multilingual and multimodal literacy practices from various theoretical and methodological perspectives, and in a range of social, political, socioeconomic, and historical contexts.
