Connor is a PhD Student in Anthropology and Linguistics at the University of Chicago, USA. In her project, she looks at linguistic and semiotic interactions in Tøyen, Oslo. She
investigates how linguistic diversity plays a role in creating the kind of urban community as we see in Tøyen as well as what interactions in Tøyen can tell us about inclusion and multilinguistic practice in urban Scandinavia. In particular, she is interested in how individuals use different codes, including various dialects and sociolects of Norwegian and foreign languages, for what purposes, and with what consequences.
Connor will be in Oslo for her dissertation fieldwork during the 2017-18 academic year.
