Academic interests

  • Sociolinguistics: Interactional sociolinguistics, sociolinguistic style, sociolinguistic change, language ideologies, ethnolects, multi-ethnic urban vernaculars, sociolinguistics of written language, youth language, hip-hop language and discourse.
  • Media linguistics: Language in mass media, media discourse analysis, research methods, audiovisual fiction, reality television, language in popular culture.
  • Online research: Computer-mediated communication, online communities, digital ethnography, social media.
  • Multilingualism: Social aspects of code-switching, societyl multilingualism, representations of multilingualism in popular culture, networked multilingualism.
