Code-switching, language development and cognition in bilingual Norwegian-Spanish children
This study is part of a PhD project focused on the development of cognition and language in children and adolescents growing up in multilingual environments.
What do we want?
Our aim is to study the development of cognition and language in multilingual children. Our central questions include:
- How are individual differences in cognition related to children’s language choice?
- How do the different multilingual environments of the child affect switching practices in children?
How do we do it?
Children complete two sessions of 45’ at our Socio-Cognitive Lab. The game-like experiment consists of a series of standardized cognitive measures on task shifting and inhibition, as well as a language-switching task and language assessment in both languages.
Who do we want?
We are looking for children (age 5-7) who are growing up with Spanish and Norwegian. Children may vary in how and how much they use each language, but they need to be able to produce words in Spanish as well as in Norwegian in order to participate in the study.

When do we want it?
Now! We will start inviting participants in early May 2021. The project will run throughout 2021.
