Background

My work at RITMO, exploring the impact of platform copyright regulations on sample-based "mashup" music (as part of the MASHED project), reflects my long-term interest in researching the relationship between music cultures and the internet. My PhD thesis, completed at University of Leeds' School of Media and Communication (and supervised by David Hesmondhalgh and Leslie Meier), explored the changing nature of "DIY" (do it yourself) music in the age of social media. I have an MA in Music, Culture and Politics (Cardiff University), and a BA in English and Music (Oxford Brookes University).
