In this session, we are discussing a chapter draft from Andresen's PhD thesis on "Minding the Child: Literary representations of child cognition in works by Henry James, Richard Hughes and Katherine Mansfield." Andresen draws on enactive and embodied theories of cognition to the study of child characters in realist and modernist literature. Her thesis explores how aesthetic simulations of childhood call on readers to enact the experience of being a child, even as they expose the social constructs that shape perceptions of childhood.

The draft includes approximately half of chapter 3 and focuses on Richard Hughes’s novel of 1929: A High Wind in Jamaica.
