In this article, Mats Haraldsen and Sarah Bro Trasmundi investigate how a process of creative and imaginative narration emerges from the interaction of an expert comic writer and his environment (pen, screen, desk, etc). Their argument is based on a cognitive video-ethnographic investigation of Norwegian comic author, Anders Kvammen. From the perspective of ecological psychology, they present a detailed analysis of a single, concrete example from the video material, supported by broader material and interviews, using Gibson’s theory of affordances and the methodology of Cognitive Event Analysis to argue that higher-level cognitive processes such as imaginative narration can be understood as an embodied and ecological form of affordance navigation.
