This teaching video offers an introduction to empirical methods in literary studies. It explains what empirical literary studies is and which kinds of phenomena it explores as well as by which means. You will learn how to form and test a hypothesis in an empirical experiment and get a chance to map out your own experimental study. You will hear about the potentials of empirical methods for the study of literature as well as about challenges and limitations.

This video on Empirical Studies is the latest addition to the LCE Digital Teaching Repository. Since our start as a strategic priority at the Humanities Faculty, LCE has been developing a range of teaching materials: A text-editing exercise where you can
manipulate textual worlds through their deixis, an interactive exercise on readers' emotions for lectures, as well as concept videos on topics from cognitive approaches to literature including ancient memory technics, imaginative uses of metaphors and how the materiality of paper books makes a difference.
